Hi all,

We’ll be back at it again tomorrow, Wed 5/9 with berries.  I sincerely hope the sunny, mild weather has ripened up the crop and moved us past the rain challenges of last week.  Weather like this will ripen berries slowly and allow the sugars to concentrate - come on super sweet berries!

My schedule this week (always subject to change as you know)

Wed 5/13 thru Mon 5/18  OPEN   10 – 6  (or when sold out)

My first load is delivered at 10:00.  The gate will be open earlier for parking.  I make trips to the field to restock again at 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30.  These delivery times matter most if we run out.  My plan is to have berries on the stand at all times but sometimes you folks scoop them up so fast I can’t keep up!

As soon as the berries are flowing in (this week hopefully), I’ll send updates less frequently.  You’ll know I’m open and won’t need email clutter first thing in the morning so frequently.  I’ll  keep up the end of day update for those of you needing to stop by late in the day but are unsure if we’re still open.

Spinach And Strawberry Salad

1 bunch spinach, washed and drained
1 pt. strawberries, halved
Dressing:
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. sesame seeds
1 tbsp. poppy seeds
1 1/2 tsp. minced onion
1/4 tsp. Worcestershire
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/4 c. cider vinegar

Put sugar, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, Worcestershire and paprika in blender. With blender running, add oil and vinegar in steady stream until mixed and thick. Arrange spinach and strawberries on plate and drizzle dressing over salad.

Elegant Strawberry Torte

3 c Sifted flour
2 c Brown sugar; firmly packed
1/2 ts Salt
1 c Butter
1 Egg; beaten
1 c Sour milk or buttermilk
1 ts Soda
1/2 c Chopped nuts
1 pt Heavy cream; whipped and sweetened
1 pt Fresh strawberries; sliced

Mix together first 4 ingredients, reserve 1 cup crumb mixture. Combine egg, milk and soda. Add to crumb mixture; stir well. Pour into 2 greased, paper-lined 9-inch layer pans. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture, then add nuts. Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes. Place one layer, nut side up, on serving plate. Spread with half the whipped cream. Top with sliced strawberries. Stack second layer and top as above.

Cheers!
