First off, let me thank each and every one of you who whipped over to our stand when I sent out the SOS on the 4th. My field workers called @ 12:00 with the news that they had picked berries which was TOTALLY unexpected. Annie and Whitley saved me by managing the stand and we were sold out by 2:30. THANK YOU!!! I know a lot of you were concerned about having to dump them..... and I'm happy to say we didn't need to. With it being a holiday (no soup kitchen open), 100 degree heat and so little qty to justify using fuel to run the cooler...... I would have had to find a quick home for them if all of you didn't adopt them.
BlueberriesToday we have 4 cases of blueberries. They'll be there at noon.
PlumsLee will have plums again today. I hope those of you who bought them the last time really enjoyed them. They are so darned tasty! Juicy, sweet and delicious..... such a treat this year considering last year was a bust because of weather. Come and get 'em. We'll have them today and maybe 2 more times depending on how they ripen. Then the harvest is over :) A very short harvest window indeed.
Plum Coffee Cake1 C flour
1/2 C sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp each ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon
2 large eggs
1/3 C milk
3 Tbsp melted butter
5 med size plums, halved and pitted
1/2 tsp cinnamon mixed with 2 Tbsp sugar
In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and cinnamon. In a small bowl combine cinnamon/sugar for topping. In a small bowl stir together eggs, milk, and butter until blended; add to flour mixture and stir until well combined. Spread batter evenly in a greased 8-9 inch cake or quiche pan.
Evenly space plum halves cut side up on top of batter. Press slightly into batter. Sprinkle batter and fruit with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake in a 375 degree oven until well browned, 40 - 45 minutes.
