Berry Update for Saturday, 5/27 - OPEN,OPEN,OPEN + the O'Honey gang!

Hi all,

Let's kick it into gear and get this holiday weekend started!! We have big, shiny red, delicious berries building up with the sweet, sweet flavor you love. Can you help me?? All these berries need loving, adoptive homes. You can help by coming to see me in person AND telling all your friends. I'm sure many of you have been reading my silly emails but have yet to sink your teeth into our juicy berries this season!

Forward my message far and wide, don't be afraid to share your berry secret :) We have plenty! Lots of happy faces make my job the best and keep me growin' them berries.

The O'Honey gang WILL be with us today. They'll have their demonstration hive to view the bees in action, tasting samples and lots of knowledge. This is a wonderful family with a passion for beekeeping. I wholeheartedly support their awesome 4-H project and hope you will stop by to support them as well. GO 4-H !!!

A big thank you goes out to Roohi for putting our smiling faces and a wonderful article about us on her website. Their website profiles local businesses as well as providing info. on local events, weather, etc. Check it out! http://www.neighborhoodnow.com/showlocal.asp?mrefcaid=12&skid=65604&cityid=3600&caid=146949

Our berries have been in a delicious dessert at Cafe Zazzle in downtown Petaluma and at the Chamber of Commerce 100 year anniversary celebration dinner. Maybe your children have enjoyed them in their school lunches through Petaluma City or Santa Rosa City schools. If you live in Marin you may have picked some up from Boardwalk Market. These berries get around!!!

Happy Memorial Weekend!

Berry Update for Sunday 5/21

Hi gang,

We're closed today due to the weather :( Our harvest schedule and the weather can be quite complicated. Everything depends on the time of day, intensity of the rainfall and weather conditions. Today for example, it rained in the early morning. This is when our crew would begin (5:30/6am). We're rained out because the cardboard boxes would get wet and the fruit was drenched. Now, at 10:30AM the weather looks pretty good. But.... I have no crew to harvest AND even if I did, the unsettled weather could shut us down just as we get started. OR it could stay sunny and dry all day! AND if we manage to harvest and the weather turns bad, folks tend to stay home and wait to visit us on a dry day.

I sincerely hope the rain stays to the north and we are able to harvest as usual tomorrow morning. We have beautiful, ripe fruit ready to send home with you. We want to keep every last berry for the upcoming Memorial weekend! Rain, rain go away.

Recipe: Chicken with Strawberry Vinaigrette

4 Chicken breast halves; boneless, skinned 1 c Strawberries; hulled 2/3 c Vegetable oil 1/4 c Red wine vinegar 1/4 c White vinegar 1 tb Sugar 1/2 ts Ground ginger 1 c Sliced fruit; kiwifruit, orange sections; strawberry Lettuce leaves

To make vinaigrette, blend strawberries, oil, vinegars, sugar and ginger, in a covered blender container or food processor, until smooth. Place chicken in shallow dish; pour 3/4 cup vinaigrette over chicken. Cover; refrigerate at least 3 hours. Refrigerate remaining vinaigrette in separate covered container. Remove chicken from marinade, reserving marinade for basting chicken. Arrange chicken breasts on rack in broiler pan. Broil 4" from heat for 15 minutes or until chicken is fork-tender, turning once and brushing often with marinade. Cut chicken into slices. Arrange fruit on lettuce-lined salad plates. Serve with vinaigrette that was not used for marinating

Berry Update for Monday, May 8th

Whew!!!!

What an Opening Day! Is was soooooo wonderful to see all your happy faces. We did our best to pick as many and as fast as we could. Sadly, we couldn't keep up! Today, Sunday, was much calmer, although we did sell out at 3:00. We harvested the ENTIRE field in 2 days! We will harvest again tomorrow but only for a few hours. I'll open at 10:00 and stay until I'm sold out. If everyone who needs berries meets me there at 10:00 I'll be gone in 15 minutes LOLOLOLO. No joking. We sold 21 flats in 14 minutes on Saturday. It does make my time very efficient to bring 'em in and send 'em home quickly. We will be open again on Wednesday and aim for a full day.

I must apologize for Ma Nature. She gave us lots of berries with splits in them. We think if was from all the rain combined with the mock spring/heat we had awhile back when they were still green. They will not keep as long and we apologize for their appearance. We should have all of them cleared out of the field within a day or so.

Happy eatin'

Berry Update for Thurs 5/4 - Opening Day Sat 5/6 @ 10AM

Helloooooo gang!

How many of you saw the stand washed and moved into position??? You folks are so observant! Every time I clean and prep YOU know what's coming - BERRIES :)

Opening day is this Saturday, May 6th. As always, we'll harvest all the ripe berries we can. I can never guess how many people will show up and how many berries we'll bring in the first day. I'll open at 10AM as usual and make additional runs to the field at 12:00, 2:00 and maybe 4:00 if needed. If everyone shows up at 10:00 I could possibly be out for a short time between runs. Don't worry if we run out a few times on Opening Day, there are tons of green berries and blossoms out there! Once we get in full harvest (about a week) we should have no trouble finding all the berries you want. Just in time for Mother's Day!

Oh happy day!!!

Cheers!
