Chandler berries from Petaluma Bounty, free range eggs, and Scotland or Bust! Invite reminder from Sally Strawberry

Hi all!

 

Amy from Petaluma Bounty is harvesting Chandler berries from her 400 plants.  I know MANY of you have emailed and called asking for a referral for berries.  Amy will have them at the Petaluma Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and at the Petaluma Wednesday nite market.   I have Chandler from my 200 plants that are being gobbled up by my “egg family” group.  One of the perks of “egg family” membership. 

 

I’ll have 100 new hens coming into production in July and I’d like to invite you to join the group.  Next week I’ll send details about how the group works.  If you’re sure you would like fresh, local, free range eggs, (even before the details memo), email me back.  I’ll add people first come, first served with the overflow added to the wait list.  More strawberries will be available to the “egg family” next year since I’m increasing my berry planting from 200 to 400.  Silly me!  I actually ENJOY harvesting now!

 

If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday night………        (can you tell I’m REALLY proud of these kids??)  I judged dairy cattle back in my youth and it’s not easy!  I placed 1^st once in my career.  These kids are really talented and consistent.  Winning State, then 2^nd at Nationals and an invitation to the International competition – that’s big.  It’s a first for any Petaluma FFA dairy team to earn an International contest  invitation.

Petaluma FFA Dairy Team Invite from Sally Strawberry

Hi gang!

 

So perhaps you thought I’d have plenty of time this spring right???  Oh no….. my strawberry hours have quickly been filled coordinating the fundraiser event for my daughter Kelli and the Petaluma FFA dairy team.  I am such a proud momma and more than pleased to help these awesome FFA members gather support for their adventure to Scotland.  Some of you know I was a 9 year 4-H member and a 4 year FFA member in my youth.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much those activities and experiences shaped my life.  Club meetings, projects, public speaking, recordkeeping, scheduled practice, dedication, accomplishment ……  I could go on and on.  I am who I am today because of it.

 

This Dairy team has done a fantastic job representing Petaluma for the past 4 years and managed something no other team in the Petaluma FFA history has ever done – receive an invitation to compete at the international level.  All of the team members have been judging individually since they were between 8 and 10 years old, and as a team for the past 4 years.  They won the state level competition and advanced to the national competition where they placed 2^nd in a field of 50 competing teams!  This is truly an honor and an accomplishment.

All proceeds benefit the 2010 state winning team traveling to Scotland in June to compete for the international title at the Royal Highland Livestock Exposition.

Un-Berry Upate from Sally Strawberry

Hi gang,

 

Seems really strange….. an UN-Berry Update!  You can’t get rid of this farmer girl!  I’ve got a bunch of things to share and  I’ll send a few “newsy” updates in the next few days so you’re not overwhelmed with a big huge memo.

 

This one is about the Nicasio/Tri-Valley Faire tomorrow, Sunday May 2^nd, at the Marin French Cheese factory.  The 4-H kids bring their bunnies, chickens, a few cows, goats, and other assorted projects for the day to be judged and to receive feedback and coaching.  There’s a raffle, kids games, and an AWESOME chicken BBQ.  Angela, daughter of Angelo Ibletto, is the queen of the fixin’s and puts together a killer plate complete with BBQ chicken, pesto pasta, beans, green salad and a roll.  Plus… all the 4-H families bring a dessert to share!

 

If you’re looking for a nice drive and a tasty lunch, head out to the Marin Cheese Factory for lunch at 11:30.  Drive past the main buildings to the back.  The activities are in the area with the picnic benches and lawn.

 

Best BBQ chicken dinner EVER!!
